Is life worth living? I bet we have all asked ourselves that question at least once or twice in our lives, usually not out loud but deep down where no one can hear your innermost fears and worries.
This profound question usually comes to mind at a period of serious depression, probably caused by the death of a close loved one, failing miserably at something you worked very hard for, or getting your heart shattered to a thousand pieces by a romantic partner. Only deep sadness could ever lead to such a thought as the average person barely gives this any thought.
I realize that those who do ponder the question of “what makes life worth living” are in a dire need of an answer. This is because sometimes it is the difference between you working on your problems, facing life head-on, and just becoming another suicidal statistic for the news reporter to announce on the 10 o’clock news.
Is Life Worth Living?
So, I put down a list of humane reasons why every life is worth living, and I hope they spark a new light in your heart and reinvigorate your appreciation for this precious gift called life. So without further ado, here they are:
Family is one of the most precious treasures of life that we can ever possess. We can always depend on them for whatever type of support we may need; social, psychological, emotional, and even financial if your issues are monetary. The family could be your parents, siblings, children, or spouse but what you all have in common is an undying love for each other and an unbreakable bond that goes deeper than the physical eyes can see.
Whenever you find you’re asking yourself what makes life worth living, look no further than your loved ones because they are the ones who have your best interest at heart and want nothing more than your joy and happiness.
So next time you think life is not worth living anymore, take a look into your daughter’s eyes or give your mum a big loving hug, and you will find yourself having a much hopeful outlook on life.
The World Is a Beautiful And Magnificent Place
Taking a trip to different places around the world will show you just how vast and rich the earth is and could make you feel much smaller.
This is a good thing as people with thoughts in the areas of “is my life worth leaving?” are prone to taking themselves too seriously. For example, if your partner breaks up with you, it may not be because of your failings as a lover, it could be that he/she was maltreated as a child and find it hard getting close to anyone.
This has nothing to do with how caring or attentive you are. So, taking a trip to see marvelous views like active volcanoes and massive labyrinths of caves can put your life into perspective. It can also show you that the world is a self-sufficient, massive living organism, and not everything is about you.
Obstacles Bring With Them a Seed Of Opportunity
As the typical self-centered creatures, we humans are, we tend to cloud our minds with the failings of the present and focus on the things going wrong for us presently and forget to see the larger picture.
It might be hard to see clearly when our incredible minds are in overdrive thinking about how unlucky we are for passing through hardship, but this clouds our thinking and puts us in a victim state. We need to realize that life isn’t a bed of roses. Things are not always going to work out the way you want them to, and that’s fine. Hardship is what builds us as an individual and helps us to grow.
Learn to take every problem you face as a growing experience for you. If you can train your mind to switch from a victim mentality to a learning one, bad events will have a far less negative effect on your mood and overall outlook on life. Stop expecting everything to fall right on your lap. Instead, learn to put yourself in uncomfortable situations because strain leads to expansion.
Everyone Has Bad Days
Bad days are part of life. You’re always going to get bad days or even weeks, and you might have bad experiences with people, places or, your business. You may ask, “why is life worth living when you’re going to feel bad half of the time?”.
Well, the universe has this fantastic mechanism that follows only one rule: ‘Balance is everything’. In every crucial part of life, there is usually more than one side to them. For example, with rain comes shine, with heat comes cold temperature, with love, comes hate, with darkness, comes light.
You will never appreciate the good if there was no bad. You will always have bad days but remember, that it is inevitable as life has to balance itself out. Every life is worth living, you just have to focus on the good times and accept the bad times as a part of life.
Other People Feel Just Like You Do
We all sometimes have thoughts of frustration and being treated unfairly, feelings of inadequacy, thinking that life has dealt us a bad hand. You are not alone in thinking this way. Everyone has their insecurities and baggage, feeling that they are not good enough and probably may not make the cut.
It is normal to feel this way, especially in the present social media age, where feelings of inadequacy can easily fall upon you at the slightest trigger. You have to remember that apps like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp are tools and can be used to make your life seem as wonderful as you want. Every single person on the face of the earth faces trials and tribulations every day and have to fight their demons, no matter what they say or post online.
Keep that in mind, whenever you start comparing other people’s lives to yours and remember that everyone has their problems, you would not like to exchange yours with another’s.
You Are Unique
You are special. Always remember that you are you, and no one can take it away from you.
From now until the end of time, there will never be anyone exactly like you. No one exists with the same physical features as your height, that crooked smile, the way you sweat when you’re under pressure, and that birthmark just above your eyelid. These are features that combine to make you what you are, and there will never be an exact combination like this ever again.
This should make you realize that you are you, and no one can be better at being you than you can. You deserve to be here just like everyone else, you are special in your way, and no one can take that away from you.
Good Is Everywhere
Although it may be hard to wrap your head around this fact sometimes, with the number of horrible things we see going on in the world right now, there is a lot of good in the world. Fantastic places, events, and people are generously spread across the globe. All it takes to experience these things is exposing yourself to the right sorts of people, and going to the right places, learn to surround yourself with positive vibes.
Just know that there is still a lot of good in the world. You just have to train your mind to automatically seek them out and surround yourself with them. Then you will begin to become more enthusiastic about the future.
Live For Those Who Can Not
There are millions of people die around the world every day, and several other millions are plagued with diseases. These people would give anything to be able to have stable health, breathe properly, and have their body system in good working order. Sadly, they don’t have that luxury, so we owe it to them to not take what we have for granted.
We should always be thankful if not for anything, sound health, and a What is The Voice in Your Mind?. It is easy to get drawn into the struggles of everyday life, but sometimes, we need to take the time to smell the roses and appreciate the little things.
Don’t disappoint those who look up to you. Tell yourself that your life is worth living just for the fact that you are alive whenever you begin to wonder “what makes life worth living?”
Always Search For Excellence
Try to aim for perfection in everything you put your efforts into, and always aim for a job well done. Studies have shown that pursuit of excellence in your field, no matter what discipline, tends to make you happier and puts you in a constant state of rapid growth. Try to be the best that you can be in whatever you do, and you will begin to see a side of life you never noticed before when you lived in mediocrity.
Aiming for perfection gives you a driving force in life and helps you envision a better tomorrow because you trust the process and believe that hard work pays off. It also helps you see that obstacles and failures are nothing but hurdles to be jumped over as you move ahead to achieve a better you.
So, wherever you are, whether pushing papers in a cubicle or writing songs in the studio, make sure that you are always putting in your all and striving to do better. This state of mind will put you on the fast track to giving your life meaning.
Things Only Get Better From Here
Whenever you feel that you are at a low point, don’t beat yourself up about it and remember that everyone feels this way sometimes, no matter how successful they are, there will always be times when you don’t just feel motivated, and you don’t feel like yourself.
But always know whenever you hit rock bottom and feel like you could not get any lower than this, there is a silver lining to it, the only place to go from here is up. When you are at your lowest point, remember that upward movement is the only possible way to go.
For example, let’s say you are riddled with debt. You have three mortgages on your property, your car has been reclaimed, your job is going nowhere, you have a drinking and gambling addiction. You can take proactive steps to better your life. If you were to stop drinking or gambling at least, it takes you in the right direction, even though it won’t eliminate all your problems instantly.
You could then move on to quitting gambling, and then further your education so you can get a better job and slowly pay off your debt. This will lead to a domino effect, which helps you do more to better your life and get you back on your feet.
So, “Is life really worth living?”, “Life is not worth living anymore”, ” Why is a life worth living?”, these are thoughts that have run through the mind of most people at a period in their lives. However, sometimes it is due to mental health issues. If you find yourself feeling bad all the time, even when things seem good all around you, you may be suffering from clinical depression. You should see a doctor about your problems, so you can get the help you need.
Remember, you are unique, and you are loved; there is no better reason why every life is worth living.
