Although intimidating, the thick and prickly skin of the fruit is somewhat tricky to peel and remove. The sizeable leafy system is yet another thing that you have to deal with. However, you would be pleased to know that peopling and cutting pineapples isn’t that tough. How to eat a pineapple? What is the right way to eat pineapple? The following guide can help you eat the fruit in the easiest ways. 

How to peel a pineapple?

If you wish to check if the pineapple is good to eat, you can pinch a leaf from the center using two fingers. If it easily comes out, the pineapple is ripe to eat. 

The most crucial step is peeling and then cutting the pineapple correctly. After removing its stem and bottom, lay the pineapple on its side. Firmly hold it with one hand and pull the leaves and twist them gently. Once removed, use a sharp knife to cut the top and bottom of the fruit evenly. 

Now remove its skin by keeping the pineapple in an upright position. By using a sharp knife, slice off thin strips from the skin. Roughly the slice should be 0.6 cm deep as it removes the thickest of skins possible. Rotate the fruit and slice the skin all around till it’s entirely peeled. 

How to cut pineapple?

After you have peeled the skin, you should carefully go around and examine for the presence of any brown divots. If you see some, remove them using a knife. How To Cut A Pineapple

Next, we proceed by cutting the fruit into slices. You should lay your peeled pineapple on its sides and hold it firmly. Using the other hand, cut the pineapple into discs and slices about 0.5 inches to 1 inch thick. However, depending on your application, the size of your slices may be thinner or thicker. We recommend reading and following recipes that you are going to try before slicing the pineapple. 

You should follow this by removing the cores from each slice by laying them flat on a cutting board. You can do this by using a 1-inch round cookie cutter for punching the center core on each slice. The core of the fruit is dark yellow running through the middle of it. Alternatively, you can use a knife to cut the core of each slice. 

How to clean a pineapple?

We strongly advise cleaning any fruit before you eat. Take a clean strainer and put the cut pieces in them. Bring them near a tap and wash them under running water for at least 30 seconds. Empty the strainer in a clean container or bowl (preferably made of glass). 

How to eat a Raw Pineapple?

Pick the slices and start eating them with your hands. It’s completely safe to eat them to pick them with clean hands. You may even use a fork or other sharp utensils to pick each slice and eat. If the slices are small, eat one at a time but take a bite if the slice is a bit big. Before taking another bite or piece, make sure you chew and swallow the previous piece completely. 

If the pineapple is served with the skin still on, eat the pineapple wedges from the tip to the skin. But be careful and not eat the skin. Also, before you start eating raw pineapples, keep napkins by your side. Ripe pineapples can be juicy, and eating them with your hands may get messy. Using the napkins, you can wipe the juice from your hands or even the face while eating.

Eating using a fork or knife keeps your hands clean and things a lot more sophisticated. You can place the pieces on a plate and use the fork or knife to cut them into smaller pieces. Pick the slices and bring them near your mouth. 

Take one piece at a time and refrain from having more till you have chewed and swallowed the last piece in your mouth. 

Should I worry about a tingling sensation?

Bromelain is an enzyme present in pineapples that can create a tingling sensation. However, it doesn’t happen to everybody who eats a pineapple, its perfectly normal. It doesn’t mean that you are allergic to pineapples. Concentrated in the center or core of the fruit, bromelain is usually removed when you remove the core. 

Alternative ways of Having a Pineapple

Some people love having barbecued or grilled pineapples. They are great when served with burgers or meats or even warm salads. Before doing so, you should either marinate or cook the pineapple. Based on your preference, you may wrap a foil to cook the fruit or directly put it inside the grill. 

For people you dislike the sensation due to bromelain, cooking pineapple breaks it down, reducing the tingling effect inside your mouth.
